We're three longtime friends — a designer, an engineer-pilot and a builder — bound by a love of wild places and long roads. After one rooftop tent too many, we set out to make camping above your car simple, light and genuinely free.

Why we exist

Freedom should never
feel complicated

What began as a personal frustration became a simple mission: design a foldable, lightweight platform that makes rooftop camping easy, fast and flexible. Whether you escape for a weekend or live full-time on the road, we believe a comfortable bed up high shouldn't mean a heavy, expensive box bolted to your car all year long.

From a lost tent to a better idea

In the words of Pierre — the founder behind the wheel that day.

How it all began

I was driving the scenic road between Inverness and Edinburgh when a sudden crosswind ripped my 15-year-old rooftop tent clean off the car. Stuck on the roadside, I started questioning everything about traditional rooftop tents: the weight, the fuel they drink, the parking headaches, and how little real freedom they gave back.

Maybe it was a blessing in disguise

Strangely, without the tent my car felt agile again — light, fast, free. That's when it clicked: what if I could keep the freedom of rooftop camping without the burden? What if the tent didn't have to live on the roof at all — just a lightweight, foldable platform you throw in the trunk and forget until you need it?

From sketches to testing

From CAD screen to CNC bench

Back home, the spark became sketches, then real prototypes. We never chased a theoretical ideal — we tested every version against the frustrations only frequent campers truly know.

David Zussy

The engineer who flies

"I've spent more time in the air than most people spend behind a desk — paramotor, paraglider, wingsuit, RC helicopters, drone racing, even skydiving. I'm a self-taught maker: if I can think it, I can build it, from a homemade CNC laser cutter to custom electronics. On Plat4tent I ask the hard questions — will it survive 1,000 km of bad roads? Hold up in the cold, dark and wind? — so every part is field-tested, never just theory."

The creative behind the vision

"I grew up between East Africa and Europe, with a gazelle and a monkey as childhood companions in Kenya. My father passed on his love of travel early — in 1975 he was already crossing Africa with a rooftop tent. Today I'm a paraglider and paramotor pilot, and every year I take my two kids deep into the mountains to camp wild. At Plat4tent I shape the ideas, the story and the design — honest, and rooted in real experience."

"From alpine peaks to open seas, I've always felt most alive in raw, untamed places — skiing, sailing, swimming with whales off Bora Bora, sleeping alone under the stars in the Canadian Rockies after an eight-hour climb. My job is to turn our concept into a real product, and that product into a business, so this kind of freedom is within reach for everyone."
